My very first experience with wine was at my boyfriend's parent's house. I was just a month or two past 21 and having a fantastic dinner with my boyfriend and his family. His parents are self proclaimed wine enthusiasts and decided to offer me a lovely white wine with my dinner. My thought process went a little something like this, "I hate beer so wine can't be too bad, right?" Boy, was I wrong. They must have picked the driest white wine out of their wine cooler. The rest of the dinner involved me delicately sipping the wine. I got through my glass, but it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.
My second, and probably my most common experience with wine involves tasting whatever my mom brings home to drink. I've grown up in Southwest Virginia my entire life with very conservative grandparents, who believe drinking is a sin, so wine is a relatively new thing to my mom and I. Her wine of choice is Moscato. The taste isn't bad, but it is all she drinks. I'm definitely up for trying new things and diversifying my pallet and well as my mother's.
Finally, my favorite experience with wine is cooking. I absolutely love cooking and just recently got into cooking with wine. My favorite dish to prepare is a chicken picatta where I deglaze the pan with a dry white wine, much like the one I tasted at my boyfriend's parent's house. I haven't branched out very far from whites though, so I would like to learn about other great wines to cook with.
